Magnolia Jazz Band in Richmond, 2010

Fun wedding music makes the celebration memorable.  Since 1975, my job has been providing music to help people have fun at their weddings and parties.  Nearly always, these events are successful when everyone enjoys the fun wedding music.

Here we are, sharing a jolly moment with a recent party-goer.

Speaking of fun, today is April Fool’s Day, and traditionally we’re likely to play practical jokes on our friends.  I’m planning a prank for my wife later today, but no more details now.  She’ll be reading.

It’ll all be in the spirit of fun, and that’s one of the prime motives of my life.  After all, we go around only once, as far as I know, so let it be enjoyable.

Let me defend the idea of having fun.  Happiness needn’t be self-indulgent, greedy, or shallow, you know, but instead it can guide us toward a wise and honorable life.  For example, it can motivate us to serve the common good, be a reliable friend, and be responsible for our actions.  Thomas Jefferson suggested we all have an inalienable right to “the pursuit of happiness”, and I think this is what he meant.

Weddings and parties are among our happiest occasions, and it’s a privilege to help people enjoy their celebrations.  By now, I’ve gotten pretty good at it, and each party is practice for the next one.  Within reason, anything goes at these parties, and I’m honored to create the mood to make these festivities memorable.

What a wonderful way to make a living!  How about YOUR career?  Are we having fun yet?
