Robbie Schlosser notes another Friday the 13thToday is the third Friday the 13th this year.  That’s good news for those of us who consider Friday the 13th their lucky day.

Today is the last Friday the 13th this year.  That’s good news for those of us who consider Friday the 13th their unlucky day.

Either way, I suspect many people don’t give Friday the 13th a second thought.  For them, their first thought might be something like “Oh geez, here we go again.  We still popularize muddled thinking.  How cute!”

I’m usually in that group.  Except today I’m writing about this superstition and music helping people celebrate a wedding or a party.  Lively or laid-back, the music makes people happy by setting the perfect atmosphere.

Plenty of superstitions surround weddings (for example, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”).  I’m all for them — I think these traditions contribute a great deal to the day’s excitement.

However, most weddings occur on Saturdays or Sundays around here, seldom on Fridays.  So I’m unaware of any specific Friday the 13th connections.  Although one of these days I won’t be surprised to see a Friday the 13th theme wedding, like the current popularity of “Great Gatsby”, “Cinderella”, or “Harry Potter” weddings.

Parties, on the other hand, are very likely to occur on a Friday.  Fifteen years ago, when the “dot.com’s” were blossoming throughout Silicon Valley, we were jazzing up TGIF parties every week.  Currently these companies have less to celebrate, but the Friday parties continue, although fewer and a bit more subdued.

Every year many people throw a party to celebrate their birthday or anniversary.  When the date falls on a 13th, they occasionally claim the “good luck” and celebrate with a Friday the 13th party, regardless of the day.

Whatever the celebration — a wedding or a special party — people always have us suit their favorite music to the occasion and the theme.  LOTS of songs have “Luck” in the title.  Take your pick.

YOUR turn.  How are YOU celebrating Friday the 13th?

@Robbie I’ve never given Friday the 13th a second thought. It’s just another day on the calendar for me. My son’s lucky number is 13 so he’s fond of this date especially when it falls on a Friday.
