Video Blogging, or vlogging, is growing rapidly everywhere, for several reasons. To start with, it’s FREE. Once I own a video camera, I can post an unlimited number of videos into my blog, forever at no additional expense. See how much I enjoy using my little Flip video camera.
For another reason, many people learn more effectively from watching and hearing something, rather than from just reading about it. So a video can enhance the sensory appeal and the power of plain text in my blog. This is a great benefit when I describe our music providing wonderful entertainment at weddings and parties. Can you imagine how adding a video would help your own website or blog?
Let me mention a few more obvious benefits of video blogging.
- A video is easy to make, and practice makes perfect.
- A video can provide a dynamic, personal touch to otherwise dry information.
- Until the novelty wears off, a video can capture and hold the viewer’s attention.
In addition, a blog which markets your product or service can use a video to provide
- a personal invitation and presentation from you,
- many dynamic examples and samples,
- tutorials for using your product or service,
- and testimonials from your happy clients.
Many people have written about how to do video blogging and the benefits of doing video blogging well. From my own personal experience (for example commenting on blogs), I’ve listed the above nine benefits in just nine minutes. I’m sure this list just scratches the surface. What can you add?
I’ve recently begun adding videos to my blog. Frankly, I’ve been pretty awkward at the start. Through the first dozen or so, they’re getting better, but I’m far from satisfied. My first wish: I’d like to be more comfortable and speak more naturally. My second: I’d like to splice in helpful details like photos, computer screen shots, and related video clips.
The second will come with special software training one of these days. The first, I’m sure, will come with practice, so I’ve challenged myself to record a little video every day for a month.
Here’s today’s video:
Bottom line: Videos can make websites and blogs more effective. If you manage a blog, have you considered adding videos?

Nice Job Robbie, I think it gets more comfortable and natural when you do more. Just be you. Speak from the heart about what you know and it will be felt through the video. I have been recording for the last 20 or so days and now I have a place to put them so excited. Keep up the good work and just Do YOU
I think todays video was great! You look more comfortable and I loved your comment about how it feels awkward to speak to the camera. So true but definitely something you are going to overcome. Hopefully me too 🙂
