Taking stock is something I do throughout the year, not just in December.
As every year draws to a close, I always pause for a year-end taking stock. It’s an enjoyable habit and a valuable guide for staying on track toward my larger goals.
I manage to accomplish a lot, by taking stock frequently and keeping all the things I do in balance.
Are you regularly taking stock too, and not just at year end?
At landmark times throughout the year — like New Year’s Day, my birthday, and personal anniversaries — I find myself stopping to size up how I’m doing, where I’ve been, and where I’m going .
Everything counts. The work I do to make a living is a significant part of living a balanced life, along with pursuing my personal interests and keeping my family and friends close. It’s all one coherent piece, and every aspect of it illuminates and supports the rest.
Yes this is a photo of me, all dressed up to celebrate a recent big holiday season. Actually I feel this portrait captures pretty well how I am making my way through life. Thanks to my new friends and their photobooth at SnapFiesta for this photo.
Like Santa Claus, my overall mission seems to be “to give”. I don’t know about Santa’s “good little girls and boys” angle. Instead over the years, I’ve found or created two ways to serve everyone in my community.
Directly, by having my band help people celebrate at weddings or parties. And indirectly, by frequently providing our services to support social organizations that make life better for people needing a little extra help.
Now, after taking stock, I find last year was a very successful and personally satisfying year on both fronts. As usual.
How do you stay on track? Should everyone be taking stock like this? Don’t you?
