Robbie Schlosser admires Seth GodinSeth Godin teaches us with his books, his blog, and public speaking engagements, many of which are available on YouTube.

Thanks to Nick Notas for the photo and your interesting blog.

I’m a long-time subscriber to Seth Godin’s daily blog posts, and I’ve read many of his books.  Regularly I dedicate some time to watching to a few of his videos, just to absorb even more deeply what Seth Godin teaches.

Godin is a passionate advocate for clear-thinking common sense, in business and in life.  Often addressing how businesses market, he urges us to examine what works and challenges us to stop doing what doesn’t work.

Simple as that.  Only he points out that many of the standard procedures we’ve been following no longer work in our rapidly changing world.  Not just in business, but in everything we do.

With no-nonsense writing and speaking, he compresses each point in a concise, easy-to-remember package.  For example, “Permission Marketing vs Interruption Marketing”.

I recently found a list of 36 recommendations he wrote about Email Etiquette.  Read the list — enjoy his style as well as his message.

Let me share one with you, as an example of what he teaches me about wedding and party music.

#35.  Does the subject line make it easy to understand what’s to come and likely it will get filed properly?

Sure, it’s about email, but this question makes me think.  Planning and scheduling music, especially for a wedding, can become overwhelming.  Especially if the bride and groom have no previous experience (often the case), and the choices are numerous and unclear.

As I work with the bride and groom, Godin’s advice reminds me how useful my own experience can be in the process.  And he urges me to highlight our conversation periodically with “subject lines”, to help keep their options clear and understandable.

How about YOU?  Visit Seth’s Blog often.  What is he teaching YOU?
