Networking for business makes life easy.  Whoever you are, and whatever you do, actively cultivate a network of friends.  Collaborating with them will make everything more successful.  It’s so simple, and so true.

I recently wrote about the benefits of seeking friends of friends.  Today’s message is more general.  Collaborate with friends.  Knowing with confidence what to expect from your colleagues, and having them count on you for the same, saves everyone time and trouble.

Robbie Schlosser and friends in San Jose 2010Business events?  Social events?  Everything helps nourish your network.  Here I’m working with a group of my colleagues in the “wedding biz”.  We’re getting together for a few enjoyable hours of socializing at the Second Harvest Food Bank, while we help pack donated food.

For years I’ve been making a living working with friends in the “hospitality industry”.  This is a loose term I use to include professionals specializing in creating weddings, parties, and other special celebrations.  The list includes caterers, wedding coordinators, photographers, florists, event planners, musicians, and many others.  Silicon Valley NACE is one group of friends I’m especially active with.

I’ve found that successful events — where the hosts actually get what they REALLY want — happen when all these professionals work smoothly together.  Friends working with friends usually guarantees a seamless operation.

Bottom line:  Whoever you are, and whatever you do, network for business and work with friends.  It pays to gather and cultivate your network.  Agree?
