Blogging for music at a wedding or a party keeps me in business. Blogging is just one part of my marketing program, and I’m marketing every day. How about you?
Brides and grooms get married once, maybe twice, and except for an anniversary party, a cocktail party, or a holiday party, there’s only a slim chance of our helping them a second time. I always urge them to recommend us to their friends, and, well, about their company parties, many of those remaining are annual or quarterly events (they used to be monthly or weekly back in the 1990s). So these days marketing is essential for keeping my schedule of weddings and parties full with new celebrations.
Do you blog? I’ve been blogging since September 2007. At the start, my intention was to increase the online visibility of my band, hoping to attract more requests for our services at a wedding or a party. In those days, I’d assemble information about how good my band was, and how much people enjoyed what we brought to their celebrations.
Speaking of history, this is my very first post. Pretty crude, eh? From today’s perspective, my early posts seem so hopeful — a lot like “Create it and they will come” and “I’ll just sit back and wait for the phone to ring”. When it came to learning from my mistakes, I’d opened a gold mine.
Nowadays, I’m working to improve the effectiveness of my blogging. No slouch, I’m reading books, attending seminars and workshops, listening to webinars, and I’ve hired the services of several coaches. Currently my main coach is Ann Evanston. Calling herself a Warrior-Preneur, she is a nationally known public speaker, social media expert, and marketing consultant, and I’m a member of her “Social Networking Coaching Club”. Her training is as rigorous as it is worthwhile, and I’m working to graduate.
More tomorrow, about what I’m learning about blogging. It’s not what I expected, and if you’re interested in blogging, you’ll find my next post very informative. Are you with me so far?
