Every year we entertain at a big 4th of July party.

Is it too early to begin planning one of your own?

Nah.  Get a head-start.  Google “4th of July party ideas” for a ton of handy suggestions.

This year our music will help create the festive 4th of July holiday mood, and we’re preparing to jazz up lots of patriotic songs.  Are you ready for a jazz band playing “America the Beautiful”?  In addition to our regular assortment of lively popular tunes that a family crowd always enjoys.

The City of Cupertino hosts an annual 4th of July party, and this is our 17th year playing here.  HUNDREDS of families come to three local parks to picnic, enjoy our music at all of them, and afterward catch one of the best fireworks shows in the area.

Gary will lead a trio at one park, Dale leads another, and I’ll lead the six-man band at the third.  Here’s a photo of some of us at a recent 4th of July party.  Thanks for the pictures, Joy.

I’ve come to believe that MOST, if not ALL, parties need music.  Music seems to help people enjoy whatever they do.  Music puts us into a happier, more receptive “state”.

Psychologists and Anthropologists, as well as Musicologists, have comments and explanations for this, I’m sure.  Every parent can tell you stories of how their toddlers like to sing whenever they’re having fun.

Let someone else wonder “why” or “how”.  For me, it’s enough to know that our music helps people have a good time.  It always happens, whether people carefully pre-plan and arrange the music for their wedding, or have us play spontaneously as we “read the moment” at an open house.

So I’m looking forward to this year’s 4th of July party.  It’s always a good time for everyone.

How about YOU? Will you include music in your next 4th of July party?
