Magnolia Jazz Band's first blog, 2007

Sooner or later, everyone wants a successful blog, right?

But what makes your blog successful?

Depends on what you’re aiming for.  For example, I’ve been blogging since 2007.  Above is a picture of my very first post, back on September 26, 2007.  Click the image to see it enlarged and in better focus.

My blog has changed quite a bit since then, but one of my objectives has always been to market my band.  We help people plan the music for their celebrations.  And then at the event we play that music, creating the perfect atmosphere for their festivities.

My aim is to have colleagues and prospects think of us whenever they need upbeat, elegant music for a wedding or party.  Our successful blog keeps loyal clients loving us — returning and recommending us to their friends and clients.

Bottom line, the band’s successful blog adds new engagements to our schedule.  And just as important, the blog reflects me — my thoughts and feelings — and invites a steady flow of interesting conversations, online and off.

Do you know how many blogs exist today?  Back in 2007 it was estimated about 250 million, and today I’m sure it’s way over that number.  Hard to guess since Blogger, the most popular platform, doesn’t report their number.

I’m sure all blogs aim for a great many objectives.  For example selling something, sharing ideas, spreading information, building a mailing list, or advocating a cause.  Often several of these at once.  Sometimes a blog serves simply as a creative outlet.

Whatever it’s objective, a blog that’s successful achieves it’s aim.  By definition.

There are many ways to succeed.  For example a successful blog may need to reach only a limited, local audience or it may need to be accessible world-wide.  It may require 100,000 new readers every month or it may require only 100 regulars to be successful.

It may require readers to keep returning or it may accomplish the goal in one visit.  It needs to consider how important is content, posting frequency, structure, promotion, engagement, and “voice”?

To cover all these situations, and more, we can learn blogging strategies and techniques from hundreds of “experts”.  These experts teach us a great many many ways to work on our blog.  Who knows, probably all are important.

These experts offer advice reflecting their expertise in all kinds of backgrounds — like internet technology, SEO, marketing, psychology, as well as practical business experience.

Thank goodness for all these experts.  And dozens more announce themselves every month!  Blogging is still an infant phenomenon, and we’re wise to heed several of the best experts, to develop a well-balanced perspective.

How about YOU?  Are you a blogger?  How are you learning to create your successful blog?

Great questions for wonderfuel, Robbie.  What makes a successful blog?  We can only aspire to know… and keep on improving on the way, right?  😉

Wedding is the most memorable occasion and to make it memorable hire a live music band to play a melodious wedding song and music.
