Here we are entertaining at the Kenyon Estate’s open house and wedding showcase. It was a terrific evening at a lovely new facility. What a treat to play for some of our best colleagues and a roomful of brides-to-be. Thank you for the photo Mark & Donnel Peters (Peters Photography) and Jason Diavatis (Kenyon Estate).
The last five weeks have been real busy for me, and I’m finally blogging again. My attention has been swamped by dozens of “gotta do it now” projects, one of which was transferring this blog from Blogger to WordPress. This transfer is still FAR from complete, but I’m finally ready to “stick my foot in the door” and make an appearance. In other words, I’m done procrastinating. Expect to see changes continue in this blog — from major overhauls to cosmetic tweaks.
The best advice from my blogging friends seems to be that blogging is a marathon, not a sprint, and that I’m in it for the long haul. Slow and steady is fine with me. The whole point of this blog is to establish a solid online connection between you and me — I’m a person with ideas and feelings, and who by the way happens to make a living as a musician.
What have I learned so far? Two things. First of all, using WordPress seems pretty easy, more complex than Blogger because it offers so much more functionality, but it’s easy enough to get the hang of pretty quickly. Drafting a new post is exactly the same as in Blogger. And once you learn how to install the first theme, widget, or plugin in WordPress, installing the next few is just as easy. There are SO MANY, they’re not all frivolous bells-and-whistles either, but features that promise significant help with communicating with you and with “Search Engine Optimization”. So now that I’m back in the blogging saddle, I’ll continue to post entries regularly, and keep you up-to-date on what I learn.
I already knew the second thing: that life goes on, ready or not. In other words, nearly every day, the band still entertains at celebrations ranging from elegant wedding receptions and banquets to casual garden parties and picnics. I’m always on the lookout for more opportunities. Today I’m talking with people hosting parties for Columbus Day and Halloween. If you’ll have a soiree on one of these days, or on any day in between, now’s a good time to arrange the details, including the music.
