This morning I found a remarkable blog post about how to use social media.  You’ll enjoy reading it.

The writer, Lisa Johnson, is a Pilates instructor, and she compares her rich life online with peak experiences with her exercise classes.  Actually, her post focuses more on communication, and only hints at advice for how to use social media.

Her main point is that social media can bring people closer in spirit.  I admire how she describes that the online connections she makes will occasionally touch her heart.

My band entertains people at their weddings and parties, and when we’re playing, my band strives for similar close connections through our music.  With the people we’re playing for, as well as among ourselves.  Here we are (lower left corner) at a beautiful wedding in Napa.

The “how to use social media” part comes in when I communicate online about the band.  I always aim to strike an emotional chord.  Because we’re not face to face, I speak in ways that appeal to our senses and our feelings.

I’m always speaking on social media with friends, fans, and clients.  In every case, the heart of what we say relies on how deep a connection we make.

Marketing my band effectively with social media is not exactly “speed dating”, but there’s at least this one similarity:  Does the communication “click”?

This is especially true when I help a prospective bride-to-be imagine the sound of her wedding reception.  Or later when I help that bride-to-be plan the music for her wedding ceremony.

I’m always working to better understand how to use social media.

How about YOU?  Have you found a secret for how to use social media?
